History of RCH

Responsive Caregivers of Hawaii (RCH) was founded in 1975 by Dr. George Y. Omura under the name of Research Center of Hawaii, a non-profit organization providing day-activity programs and residential facilities for adults with development disabilities.

RCH opened its first group home in 1977 to facilitate transitions of individuals with developmental disabilities from an institutional setting in to the community. Later RCH opened two licensed domiciliary homes housing 8 residents.

In 1985, RCH established the first intermediate care facilities for individuals.
RCH started its Home and Community Based Service (HCBS) in 1990 under the Medicaid Waiver to support social integration of individuals with developmental disabilities.

In 2002, Research Centers of Hawaii changed its name to Responsive Caregivers of Hawaii (RCH).
